How is a manufactured home different from a site-built home?
Manufactured homes in Canada are built in a controlled factory setting, adhering to the CSA A277 standard for safety and construction quality. Unlike site-built homes, which are constructed on-site and must meet local or provincial building codes, manufactured homes are pre-built and then placed on their permanent site. Modern manufactured homes rival site-built homes in design, quality, and amenities, often blending seamlessly into neighborhood architectural styles, marking a significant evolution from earlier models.
Who takes care of installing a manufactured home? Can I do it myself?
In Canada, installing a manufactured home is usually managed by the retailer or a professional installer, ensuring compliance with provincial and territorial regulations and CSA standards. These regulations are in place to guarantee the home is set up safely, taking into account the specific design of the home and the environmental conditions of the site.
While you might consider installing the home yourself, it's important to understand the complexities involved, including securing permits and meeting all necessary standards and guidelines. Professional installation is also often required by lenders for financing purposes and to ensure eligibility for insurance coverage.

Why should I consider a manufactured home?
If you’re looking to get the most out of your “housing dollar,” you should consider a manufactured home. Depending on the region of the country, construction costs per square foot for a new manufactured home are up to 50 percent less than a comparable site-built home, excluding the cost of land. All manufactured homes are built to specifications and codes that require the highest standards in every aspect of construction.
